Forfar continue their chase for the League 1 title when they host play-off hopefuls Airdrieonians at Station Park on Saturday.

Dick Campbell’s side are a point behind leaders Stranraer while the Diamonds are only three points adrift of fourth-placed Brechin with four games to go.

Campbell, this week voted League 1 Manager of the Month for March, said: “We are at home to Gary Bollan’s side and looking to build on our good run of four wins but it will not be easy.

“I have been in football a long time and I cannot recall an easy game against Airdrie. They are battlers and they will battle even more in this game as they have a target to aim for.

“To some, they have flown under the radar in terms of a play-off place but they are just one win away from getting in there. They have had one defeat in 12 games and have taken 25 points from those 12 games. That is impressive form from any team in any league.”

Forfar also have a chance to put right an Airdrie win that ruined Valentine’s Day, with Campbell adding: “They beat us in our last meeting in a game that was live on BBC ALBA.

“We started poorly that night and went behind early on. We were getting back into things and then had Gavin Malin sent off when he conceded a penalty before half-time.

“I did not think that it was a penalty, and I still do not think that it was a penalty, but it was scored.  We were two down with only 10 men and we eventually lost 3-1. That put us four points behind Stranraer but we have battled back into things.

“We have won four home games in a row, as well as four on the trot home and away. One of those was against Stranraer - we have put in a strong run at a crucial stage of the season.

“What makes it more pleasing is that we are doing it by playing some good football. Our second goal at Stenhousemuir came after nine passes and a terrific finish from Martyn Fotheringham.

“The players deserve great credit for the way they are going about things and the results they are achieving. Hopefully that will continue against Airdrie but, as I have said, it will not be easy.”
