First-half goals from Dean Shiels and Jon Daly helped League 1 Rangers beat Brechin City 2-1 at Ibrox on Saturday.

Steven Robb pulled one back after the break before Ally McCoist's side had Bilel Mohsni sent off.

Second-placed Dunfermline won 3-1 against East Fife at Bayview, with new signings Ross Forbes and Danny Grainger on target. Ryan Wallace also netted for the Pars before Paul Willis reduced the deficit.

Ayr United are up to third spot after beating Arbroath 3-2 at gale-hit Gayfield. A Michael Moffat double and a Michael Donald goal had Ayr in control at the break but Bobby Linn and on-loan Leighton McIntosh scored for the Red Lichties in the second half.

Stranraer slipped to fourth after a 1-1 draw against managerless Stenhousemuir at Ochilview. Andy Stirling gave the Blues the lead in 88 minutes but Eddie Malone levelled in stoppage time.

Forfar were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom club Airdrieonians at Station Park. Omar Kader opening the scoring but Jim Lister equalised in the second half.
