Craig Malcolm opened the scoring against his former club and Jamie Longworth sealed the victory for Stephen Aitken's side.

It was a bad day for the other title hopefuls, with second-placed Forfar beaten 2-0 at home by Brechin. Jamie Masson and Alan Trouten got the goals for City at Station Park.

Airdrieonians defeated Morton 1-0 at Cappielow thanks to a Jim Lister goal and Dunfermline were held 1-1 by Peterhead at East End Park. Ross Forbes opened the scoring but Rory McAllister equalised from the spot and the Pars later had Andy Geggan sent off.

Bottom club Stirling Albion beat Stenhousemuir 2-1 at Ochilview thanks to goals from Craig Comrie and Gordon Smith. Colin McMenamin pulled one back before the break but the Binos held on for only their second league win of the season.
