@splstats looks at some of the key numbers ahead of Sunday’s League Cup Final between Dundee United and Celtic, live on BBC Scotland at 3.00pm
2 Dundee United have won the League Cup twice in their history, but the most recent of those wins came when they defeated rivals Dundee 3-0 at Dens Park in December 1980. In fact, both of the Terrors’ League Cup triumphs came at Dens Park – their other win was a year earlier, when Aberdeen were defeated 3-0 in a replay after the original tie at Hampden finished 0-0. Since that last success, they have played in four finals and suffered four defeats – three against Rangers and one against Sunday’s opponents Celtic.
6 Saturday will be the sixth time that Celtic have faced Dundee United in a major cup final, and the Parkhead side have won each of the previous five – four in the Scottish Cup and one in the League Cup. The most recent meeting came in the 2005 Scottish Cup Final, when an Alan Thompson goal handed Celtic a 1-0 win at Hampden. Current United manager Jackie McNamara was part of the Celtic side that day. McNamara also started for Celtic in the only previous League Cup Final between the sides back in November 1997, while his assistant manager Simon Donnelly came on as a late substitute.
0 Celtic have yet to concede a goal in their three matches in this season's League Cup. Clean sheets have been the key to League Cup success in recent years – two of the last three sides to win the trophy (Kilmarnock in 2012 and Aberdeen in 2014) have done so without conceding a single goal. The Parkhead side have been prolific at the other end of the park, scoring 11 times in their three matches, with John Guidetti the joint top scorer in the tournament with four goals.
6 Dundee United's top scorer Nadir Ciftci will miss Sunday's final through suspension but the good news for Jackie McNamara is that the goals have been spread around his players so far this season. United's six League Cup goals have been scored by six different players - Jaroslaw Fojut, Chris Erskine, Aidan Connolly, Ryan Dow, Callum Morris and Ciftci have each been on the scoresheet once. A wide spread of goalscorers has been a general theme for United this season, with 19 different players on target in all competitions.
