St Mirren manager Danny Lennon praised the spirit of his side as they ended a run of narrow defeats by beating Kilmarnock 2-0 in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

Conor Newton and Gregg Wylde got the goals in the closing stages as Saints moved up to ninth in the table, level on points with Killie.

Lennon said: "There was a lot of talk at training this week from myself and my staff and the players. Everyone wore their heart on their sleeves and I was absolutely delighted to see they carried that out on to the pitch.

"They were certainly committed and passionate with the way they hunted the ball in all areas and they got their rewards."
