Lennon leaves Alloa

Danny Lennon has resigned as manager of Alloa Athletic in the wake of Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Dumbarton in the Ladbrokes Championship.

The former St Mirren boss took over at the Indodrill Stadium in April of this year and kept the club up after a dramatic play-off win over Forfar Athletic.

However, Alloa have won just one of their 16 matches in the Championship this season and are six points adrift of Livingston at the foot of the table.

Lennon told the club website: “I have decided to resign as manager of Alloa Athletic with immediate effect. Football is a results-driven business and I am the first to hold my hands up and say that our run of results this season has not been good enough.

“A number of factors have contributed to this but I take full responsibility. I have had an open and honest discussion with the chairman on it. Sometimes freshening things up can be the catalyst to turn a season around.

“I have great respect for the chairman and everyone associated with this great wee club. I would like to give the club time to find someone else before the transfer window opens up in January and provide a new manager with the opportunity to influence any personnel changes they see fit for the second half of the season.”
