Championship side Alloa Athletic have named Danny Lennon as their new manager following the departure last month of Barry Smith.

Assistant Paddy Connolly had been in temporary charge at the Indodrill Stadium but now hands over the reins to Lennon, who guided the Scotland U21 side to victory in Hungary recently.

The 46-year-old enjoyed managerial success with Cowdenbeath before moving to St Mirren in the summer of 2010. He led Saints to League Cup glory for the first time ever in 2012/13 and kept them in the Premiership before leaving at the end of the 2013/14 campaign.

Alloa's next match is against Championship winners Hearts at Tynecastle on Wednesday night, with the Wasps currently occupying the relegation play-off place.

Chairman Mike Mulraney said: "It goes without saying that we are incredibly happy to bring Danny here on a contract until the end of 2015/16 - his track record and credentials are well known. We wanted Danny Lennon here as our manager from the list of candidates from the day the vacancy became available."
