Mackay named new Stirling Albion boss

Stirling Albion have appointed former St Johnstone captain Dave Mackay as their new manager ahead of Saturday's trip to Elgin City.

Stirling Albion have appointed former St Johnstone captain Dave Mackay as their new manager ahead of Saturday's trip to Elgin City.

The 35-year-old replaces Stuart McLaren, who parted company with the club on September 24 in the wake of a 4-0 home defeat to Elgin. Martyn Corrigan had been in caretaker charge since then but stepped down after Saturday's 3-0 reverse to Ladbrokes League 2 leaders Forfar.

Mackay played for Dundee, Oxford United and Livingston before joining Saints in 2009. He famously skippered the Perth club to Scottish Cup glory in 2014 but announced his retirement from playing in September of this year due a problematic hip injury.
