McCall lands League 1 award

Ayr United boss Ian McCall has been voted Ladbrokes League 1 Manager of the Season for 2015/16 after leading the Honest Men to promotion.

Ayr United boss Ian McCall has been voted Ladbrokes League 1 Manager of the Season for 2015/16 after leading the Honest Men to promotion.

The Somerset Park side finished runners-up to Dunfermline Athletic and sealed a place in the Championship for 2016/17 by beating Peterhead and Stranraer in the play-offs.

McCall, who has previously managed Clydebank, Morton, Airdrie, Falkirk, Dundee United, Queen of the South and Partick Thistle, took over in January 2015 when Ayr were involved in a relegation battle but the 51-year-old kept them up and the club can now look forward to life in the second tier of Scottish football come August.

The Ladbrokes awards are voted for by members of the Scottish media, with a Manager and a Player of the Year selected for each of the four divisions.
