Stuart McCall has resigned as manager of Motherwell after almost four years in charge at Fir Park.

The former Scotland midfielder had been at the helm since December 2010 and was the second-longest serving boss in the SPFL, behind Forfar's Dick Campbell

McCall, 50, enjoyed a highly successful career at Fir Park, which included a Scottish Cup final appearance in 2011 and back-to-back second-place finishes in the Premiership.

Motherwell have struggled this season and go into Friday's home game against Dundee United in 11th place after a run of five straight league defeats, the latest of which was 2-1 at St Johnstone.

Assistant manager Kenny Black has been placed in interim charge as the Lanarkshire club begin the search for a new manager.
