Rangers boss Ally McCoist hopes Kris Boyd can help fire his side into the final of the Petrofac Training Cup on Wednesday night.
Alloa stand between the Ibrox club and a place in the decider against Livingston on Sunday April 5, with the Indodrill Stadium clash live on BBC ALBA at 7.30pm.
Rangers have knocked out Hibernian, Clyde and East Fife so far but have twice been held by Barry Smith's team in the Championship this season.
McCoist is backing Boyd to build on his goal in Sunday's 3-0 Scottish Cup win over Kilmarnock, which earned Rangers an Ibrox meeting with Raith Rovers in round five.
He said: "It's strange how football works - he's on the park a minute-and-a-half against the team he scored 22 goals for last season and he scores. Sometimes these things are meant to be.
"You are always tempted to start Boydy. He is capable of scoring goals against anybody. It would be crazy of me to say you are not tempted to play him.
"The way it turned out, Jon Daly and Kenny Miller were working the defenders really hard so when Boydy comes on later, maybe the defenders are just not so sharp as they were at the start.
"I hope he can kick on from that. It was a good finish from him and you could feel everyone's relief and delight for him."
