St Mirren have brought in experienced coach Alex Miller to assist boss Ian Murray, following the departure of Paisley No 2 Mark Spalding.

Miller was Saints manager for three years during the 1980s and has also been in charge of Hibernian and Aberdeen, as well as working with Liverpool and the Scotland team.

He told the club website: “I agreed to come and help St Mirren as they gave me my first opportunity to manage in the Premier League and also to assist Ian Murray, who is a young manager making his way in the game - I’m looking forward to the challenge."

Murray added: "I am very happy to have someone of Alex’s knowledge and experience beside me and this will give myself and the squad a huge lift."
