Montrose have parted company with manager Paul Hegarty in the wake of Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Cowdenbeath.
The Links Park side are just two points above bottom club Edinburgh City as they prepare to host Ladbrokes League 2 leaders Forfar Athletic this weekend.
Hegarty had been in charge since replacing George Shields in February 2015 but his reign is now over and his assistant John Holt has taken over on an interim basis.
Montrose chairman John Crawford told the club website: "On behalf of the board and everyone at the club I would like to thank Paul for all his efforts during his time with us. Paul arrived at a real low point in our history and we will always be indebted to him for keeping us up.
“He is a true professional, a real gentleman and it has been a pleasure to work with him. We wish him all the best and every success for the future.”
