More injury woe for Campbell

Ayr boss starts search for new defender

Ayr player/ manager Mark Roberts is on the lookout for an experienced centre half to come in and take the place of Martyn Campbell who suffered further injury woe at the weekend.

Campbell, who missed last season due to a knee injury, had suffered a calf injury back in August as well as a broken metatarsal in October and he limped off early in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat from Brechin City.

Roberts reckons that he will be out for at least another 3 weeks and he needs more experience on board should Campbell be out for longer.

Roberts said: “We are undoubtedly a better team when Martyn is in it so it is really disappointing that he has had such a bad run. He works really hard to get into shape and then suffers an injury.”

“I need to find an experienced player that can come in just now. It is not easy but I will keep looking.”
