Ten-man Arbroath hit back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Queen's Park in the League 1 play-off semi-final at Gayfield on Wednesday.
Bryan Wharton gave the Spiders the lead and Shaun Fraser doubled their advantage after Kieran McWalter had been sent off.
Simon Murray reduced the deficit just before the break and the on-loan Dundee United striker equalised in 64 minutes.
In the other tie, East Fife and Stenhousemuir drew 1-1 at Bayview. Ross Brown had Gary Naysmith's men ahead early on but Alan Lithgow levelled things up just after the hour mark.
The second legs take place at Hampden and Ochilview on Saturday.
