Hibernian beat Heart of Midlothian 1-0 in front of 20,165 fans at Easter Road in the first top-flight Edinburgh derby since April 2014.
Simon Murray lashed a shot high into the net after just three minutes and that proved decisive as Hibs leapfrogged their rivals to climb to fifth in the table.
It finished 0-0 between St Johnstone and Ross County at McDiarmid Park and it was also goalless at the SuperSeal Stadium as Hamilton Accies and Partick Thistle drew a blank - the point was enough to lift the Jags off the foot of the table at the expense of Kilmarnock.
