St Mirren have appointed Ian Murray as their new manager as they prepare for next season in the Scottish Championship.
The former Scotland, Rangers and Hibernian midfielder makes the move from Dumbarton, where he had been in charge since November 2012.
Murray kept the Sons in the Championship against all the odds in 2012/13 and guided them to a highly-impressive fifth place the following season before finishing seventh in 2014/15.
St Mirren parted company with Danny Lennon last summer and Tommy Craig left the Paisley club in December, with Gary Teale taking over on an interim basis, along with Head of Youth David Longwell - the pair will take the team for Saturday's final game against Hamilton Accies.
Saints chairman Stewart Gilmour told the club website: "Ian is a young and ambitious manager who impressed the interview panel with his desire to go on to higher things in football.
"We are very grateful to Dumbarton for their co-operation and allowing St Mirren the opportunity to speak to Ian as we know he will be a loss to their own club, such has been the success he has enjoyed in his time there.
"Having managed in the Championship for two-and-half seasons he is well aware of the challenges ahead in the coming season for St Mirren.”
Murray, who was one of five interviewed for the post, added: "The club has a fantastic infrastructure in place with its own training facility and successful youth academy and I hope to develop and enhance the position of the club going forward.
"I would like to thank everyone connected with Dumbarton for giving me the chance in 2012 and hopefully they have seen progress over the past two-and-a-half years.”
