Russell Anderson is to take up a new post at Pittodrie after announcing his retirement from playing at the end of last week.

The 36-year-old former Scotland defender spent a decade with the Dons before moving to Sunderland and returned for a second spell in 2012 following a stint with Derby County.

Anderson has been appointed as Business Development Executive and will also have a role to play in the development of the club’s longer-term projects for a new training facility and stadium.

Vice Chairman George Yule told the Aberdeen FC website: “Given Russell's qualities in leadership, his ability to engage at all levels, his standing both at the club and in this area, we believe these ingredients will allow us to develop a future career at the club for Russell.”
