Paatelainen leaves Dundee United

Dundee United have parted company with manager Mixu Paatelainen in the wake of Monday's relegation to the Ladbrokes Championship.

Dundee United have parted company with manager Mixu Paatelainen in the wake of Monday's relegation to the Ladbrokes Championship.

The former Cowdenbeath, Hibernian, Kilmarnock and Finland boss took over from Jackie McNamara in October but has now left Tannadice following the 2-1 defeat at Dens Park, which ended their 20-year stay in the top flight.

Paatelainen told the club website: “I would like to thank the players, staff and supporters. It has been a difficult winter and the challenge was huge but nevertheless I have enjoyed every day working for the club and with this group of players.”

Dundee United, whose next game is away to Inverness Caley Thistle on Friday night, must now prepare for life in the Ladbrokes Championship.
