Harry Panayiotou, on loan from Leicester City, came off the bench to head the winner for Ray McKinnon's men against Hibernian with 15 minutes left at Stark's Park.
The sides now meet in Edinburgh on Saturday lunchtime, with Falkirk awaiting the winners in a two-legged semi-final on Tuesday and Friday of next week.
