Lewis Macleod scored a late winner as Rangers beat St Johnstone 1-0 at Ibrox on Tuesday night to reach the semi-finals of the Scottish League Cup.

The midfielder headed home a Fraser Aird cross with four minutes remaining as Ally McCoist's side booked their place in Saturday evening's draw for the last four.

Both teams earlier missed chances in a tight contest that appeared to be heading for extra time. Rangers striker Kris Boyd was denied by Alan Mannus in the first half and Lee McCulloch had a second-half header disallowed while Frazer Wright and Brian Graham came close for Saints.

The remaining quarter-finals go ahead on Wednesday evening - holders Aberdeen host Hamilton Accies, Celtic face Partick Thistle at Parkhead and Hibernian entertain Dundee United.
