Aberdeen captain Mark Reynolds is desperate to keep hold of the League Cup trophy the Dons won against Inverness CT in March 2014.
Derek McInnes’ men prevailed on penalties at Celtic Park, following a tense 0-0 draw, to get their hands on silverware for the first time since Dundee had been defeated 2-0 in the final of the same competition in November 1995.
Aberdeen have knocked out Livingston and Hamilton Accies so far and face a United side who have accounted for Dundee and Hibernian.
Reynolds said: "I said last year when we won the cup that we wanted to put ourselves in this kind of position again. We did not just want last year to be a one-off.
"We want to win more cups. People keep talking about last year being the start of something special, and we all believe it can be, but that will only be the case if we win more trophies and get more success.
"We walk up and down the corridors at Pittodrie and see the pictures of previous cup wins and we want to be one of those teams who will be remembered in the future."
