Roberts keen to keep playing

Mark Roberts, who lost his job as player/manager of League 1 Ayr United last month, is keen to continue his playing career.

The 39-year-old ex-Kilmarnock and Partick Thistle forward has been training with Clyde and has also had contact from a number of Junior clubs.

He said: “I lost my job at Ayr on the Monday and the following night I trained with a Junior side. I love football and, while I was disappointed at how things ended at Ayr, I cannot stay away.

“I was speaking to Barry Ferguson just before Christmas and he asked me to come in and train with his squad. I have done that now but it is too early to say if I will get a chance there.

"He wants experience, and I want to play, but apart from a few substitute appearances in the first team and reserve games over the past year I have not played a lot.

“If nothing happens at Clyde, most of the Junior sides in Ayrshire have been in touch and I will hopefully join one of them. I know Stevie Crawford went back to playing after being the manager at East Fife and he is now coaching at Hearts, so what I am looking to do is not unique.”
