Saints sign Doyle as Mackay ruled out

St Johnstone have signed full-back Michael Doyle after captain Dave Mackay was ruled out for the rest of the season with a hip problem.

St Johnstone have signed full-back Michael Doyle after captain Dave Mackay was ruled out for the rest of the season with a hip problem.

Doyle, who has also played for Kilmarnock and Stirling Albion, recently ended a short spell with Alloa after missing the opening months of 2015/16 with an injury.

Saints boss Tommy Wright told the club website: "I know Michael well. He was about to sign for Cork City but wants full-time football in Scotland and this opportunity has come at the right time for him. He’s a good athlete and will give us good cover at a critical stage in the season."

The 24-year-old could make his St Johnstone debut in Saturday's Ladbrokes Premiership game against second-placed Aberdeen at McDiarmid Park.
