Albion Rovers will receive the League 2 trophy following Saturday’s game with Arbroath, after clinching the title against Clyde at Broadwood last week.

Scott Chaplain, now in his third spell with the Coatbridge club, having also turned out for Ayr, Partick Thistle, Dumbarton and Annan, is the latest player to fall under the SPFL Spotlight.

What is the best goal you have ever scored?
That was a volley for Partick Thistle in a derby match against Clyde in 2007. I struck it side-on from about 18 yards and it was great to watch it hit the net. It was even better as we went on to win 4-0.

What is the best game you have played in?
When Albion Rovers beat Airdrie 7-2 on Guy Fawkes Day in 2011. I scored a hat-trick on what was a great day for the club and for me. It was an emphatic win and you do not often see 7-2 scorelines. They had won the first meeting that season 4-0, so to make up for that at a packed Cliftonhill was great.

What is your favourite away ground?
I have played at Ibrox a few times and I will pick that ahead of Hampden, where I was involved in a League Cup Final for Ayr. I prefer Ibrox as the fans are a lot closer to the action. I played there for Partick Thistle in a Scottish Cup tie in 2008 – there were 3,000 Thistle fans and it was a terrific night that ended 1-1, with Gary Harkins scoring for us and Kris Boyd for Rangers.

What is your favourite other sport?
Golf, although I have an active interest in lots of other sports. I worked at the Commonwealth Games at the badminton events and I am working at Stirling University now where I am involved in a wide variety of sports. However, if I could travel the world playing golf professionally I would as it would be a great way of life.

Which player in the world would you like to have brought to Albion Rovers?
Paul Gascoigne, who was a terrific attacking midfielder - I would love to play as well as he did in a similar position. He was an all-round great player who could tackle, create chances and score goals.

What is your favourite pre-match meal?
I do not have a set one like a lot of superstitious players. I will have some cereal in the morning and then toast before I go out but I am not a big eater.

What is your favourite music?
I have no real favourites and suppose I am a bit of an all-rounder although I don't really download much, just a few good tunes. Ally Love and Gary Phillips do the music for Rovers and some of it is just noise. I tell them to get a tune with words in it!

Who is the biggest moaner you have played with?

Stevie Murray at Partick Thistle. He had wee man syndrome and looked to pick arguments all the time. John Gemmell is not a moaner but he likes a huff!

Who has been your most skilful team-mate?
I do not think I have played with that many! I will go for Chris Burke, who was in my youth team at Rangers and was a traditional winger and really good at it.

Who was your worst dressed team-mate?

Gary Harkins - makes no effort whatsoever and wears what he picks off the floor and has never seen an iron!

Who is the best trainer you have played with?

Simon Donnelly was good to train with as he worked really hard and his touch was superb. A joy to watch.

And the best dancer?!
Definitely not me - Stevie Murray, he sure liked a move.
