St Mirren have parted company with manager Alex Rae and his assistant Davie Farrell in the wake of Saturday's 1-1 draw at Dumbarton.

The Paisley club are bottom of the Ladbrokes Championship, with three points from six games, and face ninth-placed Dunfermline at East End Park next weekend.

Rae had been in charge since replacing Ian Murray in December 2015 but a poor start to the season has cost the former Dundee boss his job.

A club statement read: "St Mirren have terminated the contracts of both manager Alex Rae and assistant manager David Farrell.

"The head of the club’s academy, Allan McManus, will take the team on an interim basis until a successor is appointed. This will be the board’s immediate priority.

"The board would like to thank both Alex and David for all of their efforts on behalf of the club and wish them all the best for the future."
