Dumbarton have announced that striker Tim Whalen who was part of a deadly forward line in the 1950’s that included club record goalscorer Hughie Gallagher has passed away.
Whalen joined the Sons from Duntocher Hibs in 1955 and stayed until 1961 during which time he played in 122 games and scored 44 goals before heading for Berwick Rangers.
After just one season at Shielfield Whalen headed west to join San Francisco Scots and he remained in the United States until his recent death.
Dumbarton’s Chief Executive Gilbert Lawrie said: “Tim was a member of the widely renowned great Dumbarton team of the late 1950's. Everyone at the club send their condolences to his family and friends on their sad loss.”
