Talking Kit - Top 10 - 2016/17

Every Wednesday over the course of the season we will be bringing you a new article about some of the best, worst, and most iconic strips in the history of Scottish football.

Welcome to Talking Kit! Every Wednesday over the course of the season we will be bringing you a new article about some of the best, worst, and most iconic strips in the history of Scottish football.

Whether it’s a timeless classic, a wacky design, or a kit from a successful season, we’ll have them all!

We thought the best way to kick off would be a countdown of our top 10 best SPFL kits for the 2016/17 season!

10. Edinburgh City Away
We start with the SPFL’s newest member club, Edinburgh City. Their yellow and black Joma away kit is one to look out for in City’s first season in Ladbrokes League 2.

9. Dundee United Away
The next kit on our list is Dundee United’s classy white Nike away kit with black trim. The Arabs will be hoping it brings them luck in their bid to return to the top flight at the first time of asking.

8. Ayr United Home
Adidas have really pulled it out the bag with this strip. This design is a fresh take on the Honest Men’s trademark black and white hoops from the early days.

7. Heart of Midlothian Home
Many people say that ‘less is more’ and that proves to be the case with the Jambos’ new home kit. Puma’s simplistic design makes this one of the best Hearts kits in recent years.

6. Airdrieonians Home
This one is a real gem of a kit. Well, a diamond to be precise! Airdrieonians’ Under Armour home strip is simple, yet effective and will be one to look out for in League 1 over the course of the season.

5. Albion Rovers Third
Black is back with a bang in the case of Rovers’ new third kit. Another classy offering from Adidas and something different to the standard yellow and red of the home and away kits.

4. Hibernian Away
Hibernian have had some cool strips over the past few seasons and the new away kit is no different. The brilliant colour contrast between the bright green/yellow shirt and socks and the black shorts make this Nike kit a real cracker.

3. Kilmarnock Home
Some strips just seem to have a real ‘wow’ factor about them and Kilmarnock’s new Nike home ensemble has that in abundance. The traditional stripes have been given a modern look, with the white and blue blending together to make this one of the best kits to grace the pitch at Rugby Park.

2. Peterhead Away
If it ain't broke, don’t fix it. Peterhead have opted to stick with the same away kit as last season and it’s clear to see why. This Adidas strip is almost perfect and is very unlucky to miss out on our top spot.

1. Aberdeen Away
Taking the crown as best of the new season is Aberdeen’s stunning Adidas away strip. It’s difficult to pick out a flaw in this awesome design, with the black base colour and contrasting fluorescent pink stripes making this a real masterpiece. To top it all off, this was recently named the fourth-nicest kit in world football by FourFourTwo magazine, ranked behind Pumas of Mexico, Tottenham and Galatasaray.
