United beat Accies to go third

Dundee United climbed to third place in the Premiership with a 3-2 victory over Hamilton Accies on Monday night.

Dundee United climbed to third place in the Premiership with a 3-2 victory over Hamilton Accies on Monday night.

Sean Dillon headed the winner with 13 minutes left after Accies had fought back from two goals down in an entertaining match played in difficult conditions at New Douglas Park.

Stuart Armstrong fired Jackie McNamara's men ahead with a sweet strike from outside the area and set up Gary Mackay-Steven to double their lead just 20 seconds after the break.

Hamilton, with Martin Canning in interim charge after the departure of Alex Neil to Norwich City last week, pulled one back through a terrific free-kick from Jesus Garcia Tena and Ali Crawford hooked in the equaliser with 20 minutes remaining.

Dillon had the final word as Dundee United leapfrogged their opponents, who suffered a first home defeat in the Premiership since losing to Inverness CT on the opening day.
