Blair Spittal grabbed a double and Mark Durnan and John Rankin were also on target as Mixu Paatelainen's men went 4-0 up by half-time. Sean Dillon added the fifth before Josh Magennis pulled one back. United are now 11 points behind the Ayrshire side with a game in hand.

Ross County are up to fourth place in the table after beating Motherwell 2-1 at Fir Park with goals from Jackson Irvine and Brian Graham. Stephen Pearson pulled one back late on.

Leaders Celtic moved six points clear at the top with a 3-1 home win over St Johnstone. Gary Mackay-Steven's opener was quickly cancelled out by Steven MacLean but his second of the day - and the season - sealed the victory after Stuart Armstrong had made it 2-1.

Inverness Caley Thistle and Partick Thistle drew 0-0 in the Highland capital while Hamilton Accies play Hearts at New Douglas Park on Sunday, live on Sky Sports at 12.45pm.
