Aberdeen last won the Scottish Cup in 1990 when they beat Celtic on penalties after a 0-0 draw and they haven’t reached the final since losing 4-0 to Rangers in 2000. Hibernian’s last Scottish Cup triumph was way back in 1902 and they last appeared in the final in 2001 when Celtic came out on top 3-0. Craig Brown’s Aberdeen have knocked out Forfar (4-0), Queen of the South (2-1 in a replay) and Motherwell (2-1) to reach this stage. Pat Fenlon’s Hibernian have accounted for Cowdenbeath (3-2), Kilmarnock (1-0) and Ayr United (2-0). The Dons ended a poor run in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League when they defeated Dundee United 3-1 last weekend while Hibernian have moved seven points clear of bottom club Dunfermline on the back of a 3-2 win at Inverness CT and a 1-1 draw with Motherwell at Easter Road on Sunday.

Celtic beat Motherwell 3-0 in last season’s final and are hoping to complete a league and cup double after clinching the SPL title with a 6-0 thrashing of Kilmarnock last weekend. Hearts won the Scottish Cup as recently as 2006 when they beat Gretna on penalties after a 1-1 draw and also lifted the trophy in 1998 when they defeated Rangers 2-1 at Parkhead. Neil Lennon’s Celtic began their road to Hampden with a 3-0 victory at Peterhead then won 2-0 away to Inverness CT before beating Dundee United 4-0 in the quarter-final at Tannadice. Paul Sergio’s Hearts edged out Auchinleck Talbot 1-0 in round four then overcame St Johnstone 2-1 in a fifth-round replay. It was a similar story in the last eight, where they were held at home by St Mirren before winning 2-0 at the second attempt. Hearts are now only two points behind fourth-placed St Johnstone in the SPL after downing struggling Dunfermline 2-1 at East End Park last week.
