Young takes over at Cliftonhill

Albion Rovers have appointed former Aberdeen and Dunfermline midfielder Darren Young as their new player/manager.

Albion Rovers have appointed former Aberdeen and Dunfermline midfielder Darren Young as their new player/manager.

The Coatbridge club this evening announced the departure of James Ward, who took over last summer, and installed Young at the helm.

Young, 35, has spent the last three years with Alloa and will be assisted by Sandy Clark, who until recently was No 2 to Allan Johnston at Kilmarnock.

Ward led Rovers to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup, where they took Rangers to a replay, and he signed a new one-year contract in April but has now parted company with the club in the wake of their seventh-place finish in League 2.
