Formartine sign Joe Hamill

Ramsdens Cup First Round winners strengthen for Elgin test

Highland League side Formartine United have signed former Hearts, Leicester City, Livingston and Raith Rovers midfielder Joe Hamill. The 29-year-old was released by the Kirkcaldy club at the end of last season and spent time during the summer with Stirling Albion, Berwick Rangers and Cowdenbeath but he headed to North Lodge Park last month when no deals to play in the SPFL were agreed.

Hamill played for the Pitmedden side, who are managed by former Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Aberdeen and Peterhead manager Steve Paterson, as a trialist against East Stirlingshire in the Ramsdens Cup as well as against Highland League opponents Lossiemouth and Forres Mechanics.

Paterson said: “As you would expect from a player of his experience, Joe has slotted in comfortably into our midfield. He has quality and his use of the ball is first class and signing him for one year is a great piece of business by the club.”
