The SPFL has today confirmed a range of new TV and radio deals covering Scottish league football, which combined are worth a substantial six-figure sum to be distributed across all 42 clubs.
The new contracts, with BBC Scotland, STV and the Bauer Group, are effective from the start of the new SPFL league season which begins this weekend.
Increased coverage includes:
• BBC Scotland – the addition of television highlights, radio commentary and online clip rights for SPFL Championship matches for the next two seasons, on top of comprehensive SPFL Premiership programming
• STV – online and television clip rights
• The Bauer Group – the return of regionalised Saturday afternoon full match commentary as well as live goal flashes from the SPFL Premiership and Championship
The news follows an earlier announcement this summer which confirmed increased live coverage from Sky Sports, BT Sport and BBC Alba across all four leagues.
Neil Doncaster, SPFL Chief Executive, said: “It’s great news for fans of Scottish football that we will see and hear even more coverage of the game next season.
“The countdown to kick-off is nearly over and thanks to the support of BBC Scotland, STV and the Bauer Group supporters will have more opportunities than ever to catch up on the action every week.”
BBC Scotland’s Head of Sport, Ewan Angus, added: “With three of Scotland’s best supported clubs playing in the second tier this season it’s important to be able to provide additional coverage from the SPFL Championship alongside the Premiership action.”
Bobby Hain, Director of Channels at STV, said: “As the new season gets underway, we look forward to continuing our relationship with the SPFL not only by delivering clips for our on air and online channels, including STV’s new city TV channels, but also as production partners.”
Graham Bryce, Managing Director for the Bauer Group in Scotland, said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be able to bring the very best of Scottish football to listeners across Scotland this season, including the return of live commentary every Saturday afternoon.
“Our stations throughout Scotland live and breathe the lives, passions and interests of our communities and nothing reflects this more than football.”
