IRN-BRU RECRUIT HELICOPTER FOR PHENOMENAL END OF SEASON SHOWDOWN

Second Divsion in the air.

IRN-BRU SFL Second Division TrophyIRN-BRU and the Scottish Football League are delighted to announce a helicopter has been secured to deliver the 2nd Division League trophy for the championship decider this Saturday. The only way to ensure the trophy will be delivered on time is by using a helicopter.

Just two points separate league leaders Stirling Albion from local rivals Alloa Athletic and the final day of the season sees Stirling Albion playing away at Brechin and Alloa hosting Cowdenbeath, 70 miles away. It’s these exceptional circumstances that mean the trophy will be poised in a helicopter until the winner is decided along with Scottish Football League Operations Director, David Thomson and Head of Marketing for Barr Soft Drinks, Adrian Troy who will present it to the winning team.

This is the first season since IRN-BRU started sponsoring the SFL in 2007 that a helicopter has been drafted in on the final day of the season. League officials and representatives from IRN-BRU have pulled out all the stops in these exceptional circumstances to arrange for the league trophy to be delivered at the final whistle to the winning team.

The last time this rare occasion happened with a title winner undecided on the final day was three years ago, when Gretna won the 1st division. This season the trophy will start its phenomenal journey at Cumbernauld airport, where it will then be flown to Perth and it will remain there until the final whistle has been blown at both Recreation Park, Alloa and Glebe Park, Brechin where Stirling are playing away. The trophy will then start the final leg of the journey by flying to the winning ground.

David Longmuir, Cheif Executive of The SFL & Adrian Troy, Head of A.G BarrAdrian Troy, Head of A.G Barr commented;

“This is the first time during IRN-BRU’s sponsorship of the SFL that a helicopter has been required and we are delighted to be involved in this dramatic and exciting finale. It is sure to be a memorable day for everyone connected with the league and especially players and supporters of Stirling Albion and Alloa. We hope Saturday will be a PHENOMENAL day for all.”

David Longmuir, Chief Executive of the SFL;

“The Second Division is the only league in Scotland to be decided on the final day of the season, this reflects the exciting football that is displayed every week by these clubs. I am sure both Stirling Albion and Alloa will put on terrific performances on Saturday to try to clinch the title and we wish both teams all the very best.”
