Queen’s Park’s best kept secret has reluctantly accepted that he is a bit better known now as two and a half seasons of top performances were finally rewarded when midfielder David Anderson was awarded the IRN-BRU SFL Phenomenal Player of the Month Award for September.
After being talked about in glowing terms only by Third Division fans, players and management, the 27-year-old joiner’s fine form for The Spiders was finally recognised by the SFL’s judging panel.
Anderson is on the quiet side of quiet and is extremely happy being a Hampden player and was surprised to find out that his impressive form during a month that saw League wins over Stirling Albion, Clyde and Elgin City as well as Junior opponents, Irvine Meadow, in the Scottish Cup made him the top player in the SFL’s three divisions.
Accepting that he might be a bit more famous now, Anderson said: “It is great to get this honour although it is a total surprise and not something I was looking out for. I have only played football for Erskine Boys Club, where I was until I was 20, before moving onto Kilbirnie Ladeside as my pals played there.
“I was really happy playing with them and I stayed there for five seasons and needed a bit of coaxing to move up to the senior game. The gaffer here, Gardner Speirs, was really persistent and I am now glad that he was as this has been the best move I have ever made.”
Anderson added: “This is a great club with great people at it and I have loved my time with them. I have played virtually every week and I suppose last month was a good one and my highlight was the 4-0 win at Elgin as not many teams will win up there by that score.”
As for last Saturday's original Glasgow derby League encounter at Ibrox, Anderson said: “The Rangers game was the biggest game I have ever played in although our Scottish Cup tie with Motherwell earlier this year was a huge event for me. I gave it my all that day as I had always wanted to play at a SPL ground and I had the same approach for this game.”
"It was tremendous playing in front of a crowd of nearly 50,000 and whilst disappointed with the result, I thought that we performed well."
Anderson finished by saying: “I had to be persuaded to sign for Queen’s Park but I am glad I did and now I would never move on as I love it that much.”
