Jenkins eyes Peterhead

Former St Mirren assistant keen on Blue Toon

Iain JenkinsFormer St. Mirren assistant manager Ian Jenkins has thrown his hat into the ring to be the next manager of Third Division Peterhead. The 38-year-old former Northern Ireland internationalist has been itching to get back into the game since leaving his post at Paisley at the start of the season and he sees the Balmoor job as a great opportunity as he knows his way around the lower leagues.

The job at the Blue Toon became vacant on Friday when John Sheran was sacked and Jenkins, who holds a UEFA ‘A’ Licence Coaching Qualification said, “I know the SFL really well as I was assistant to Danny Lennon when we moved Cowdenbeath from the Third Division to the First in successive seasons. Peterhead is a club that can go on a similar journey and I have wanted to be my own man since leaving St Mirren and I see this as a great opportunity.”

Jenkins, who has been coaching with the SFA recently, has managed Junior sides Broughty Athletic and Tayport in the past, added, “I will be contacting the club’s Chairman Rodger Morrison to discuss applying.”
