Dunfermline’s summer signing from Ayr United, striker Michael Moffat, is hoping that both his scoring streak and the Pars’ winning run will continue at Morton tomorrow.
The 30-year-old has netted in the League 1 leaders’ last three games against Airdrieonians, Stranraer and Stenhousemuir and Jim Jefferies’ side now lead the way from Ayr United and Forfar on goal difference.
Moffat said: “It is good to get your season up and running in terms of scoring goals and it is important to do that when you go to a new club. We have moved up the table after our recent wins and if we can get on to four in a row, and I get another goal, then there is some real momentum both personally and at a team level.”
Moffat was picked up by the Honest Men from Junior side Girvan in January 2011 and is delighted to be playing full-time football for the first time.
He said: “It is great to be playing at a full-time club at this stage of my career. I trained a lot when I was with Ayr as I also worked in their community programme but I am sure I will get sharper and stronger at Dunfermline as the season goes on.
“I also wanted to do everything I could about this move correctly so I have moved through from the west coast to close to Dunfermline. It is a big move for me after playing at Girvan and agreeing a two-year deal so I am giving it my best shot.
“We made a slow start in the league but we are now winning after having a disappointing run that included going out of both cups.
“We drew with Brechin and then lost to Forfar in the league, so it was certainly not the best of starts. However, we moved up the table after winning against Airdrie, Stranraer and Stenhousemuir. I have scored four times in total but there is more to come.
“We now face Morton who are a very good side and who, like us, are full-time. It will be a hard game but hopefully we can keep our good run going and stay at the top of the league.
“They had a good win last weekend over Airdrie and look strong. While I am not overly familiar with their style, when you see that they are only a point behind us you realise how tough this game will be.
“I played Morton a few times when I was with Ayr and I have scored at Cappielow before and it would be nice to do it again. I have not won there and it would be good to break my duck.”
The Pars missed out on promotion last season when they lost to Cowdenbeath in the play-offs and Moffat added: “Promotion is the aim for Dunfermline this season and, to be honest, we will be disappointed if we are not title winners come May.
"I get the feeling from the boys that were here last season that they are really determined to make up for not getting promoted.”
