The Scottish Football League are delighted to advise that last season, an average of 3.1 goals per game were scored and like the fans, they are looking forward to seeing the nets bulge just as regularly in the new campaign. In fact, there was a lot of drama in the IRN-BRU SFL First, Second and Third Division Championships last season which included:-
- 540 regular League matches being played in the IRN-BRU SFL Championship (NOT including Play-Off matches).
- 552 matches were played in the IRN-BRU SFL Championship when you include the Play-Off matches.
- 49,680 minutes of action (not including injury time) which equates to 2,980,800 seconds of action (again not including injury time).
- 1,665 goals scored during the regular season which means very few goalless encounters.
- 3.1 was the average number of goals scored per game during the regular season.
- 30 goals scored in the 12 Play-Off matches with an average of 2.5 goals scored per game in Play-Off matches.
- Over 750,000 fans watched SFL clubs in competitions organised by The Scottish Football League during season 2011/12.
- 418 different players scored in the IRN-BRU SFL Championship during season 2011/12.
- 32 different players scored own goals during the IRN-BRU SFL Championship during season 2011/12.
A lot happened on the pitch and a lot happened off the pitch and the SFL will continue to support the game through not only administering the three divisions of the IRN-BRU SFL Championship, The League Cup and The Ramsdens Cup as well as reserve and youth football next season but by also continuing to showcase our clubs.
Over recent seasons, we have developed the really popular sfl.tv, our weekly SFL Newsletter, our website, scottishfootballleague.com as well as our Twitter service.
From quite humble beginnings, the media content supplied by The Scottish Football League has grown over the past two years and today's SFL newsletter is a great opportunity to bring everyone up-to-date with what has been achieved.
We hope that you enjoy what we produce in tandem with your clubs at 'The Home of Real Football' and that they add to your enjoyment of following football throughout the season.
SFL.TV
The weekly programme of highlights from all three divisions is the only place to see a round-up of IRN-BRU SFLÂ Championship action. Last season saw highlights from over 550 games produced in over 50 weekly programmes that go to air on a Thursday evening.
Last season was the greatest ever coverage of from the IRN-BRU SFL First, Second and Third Divisions there has ever been but we have not stopped there. Over the last two seasons, we have also included Goal of the Month and Goal of the Season programmes, as well as the Classic TV channel as well as a round-up from each round played in The Scottish Communities League Cup and Ramsdens Cup competitions.
sfl.tv is viewed over 1.25Million times in a season by fans in over 130 countries with large numbers logging on from Europe, USA, Canada, Australia and Japan.
It would be true to say sfl.tv is well liked by fans, positively received by the various sectors of the media and last season, we saw progress as we had more games shown per club than the previous inaugural season.
We like to think that sfl.tv is perfect for sponsorship to allow it to develop as we would like it to continue as a free service and we are actively looking into that.
SFL Newsletter
Our weekly SFL Newsletter has seen subscriber numbers triple since it was moved to a new format two years ago at the start of season 2010/11. The Newsletter looks to provide interviews with people in the game at all levels of the game in the SFL that perhaps do not get a lot of depth in the mainstream media.
It is delivered in a 'Just in Time Approach' to ensure relevance with features selected at the beginning of the week and interviews conducted, written up and published before being sent out free of charge on a Friday afternoon. It is no mean feat when you consider that many of the players and officials are already juggling playing and training with their daytime jobs as well as trying to fit in interviews.
The Newsletters are produced to cover both League matches and the two cup competitions organised by the SFLÂ and the growth in numbers has been achieved through word of mouth about the content as opposed to an advertising campaign.
The wide world of SFL football is looked at and whilst we publicise the characters in the game, we also look at socially aware issues such as innovative Season Ticket sales from Livingston FC, the SFL's 'Fit for football Fit for Life' initiative, Alcohol Awareness, dementia projects and employment issues with PFA Scotland.
We have also spoken to future stars such as Montrose's Martin Boyle, Elgin City's Brian Cameron and Ayr United's Jonathan Tiffoney as well as the Leonardo Da Vinci projects that have been successfully undertaken by Livingston and Queen's Park.
We also highlight prominently the IRN-BRU SFL Manager and Player of the Month and End of Season Award winners.
The SFL Newsletter is read by fans, players, club officials, managers and coaches with fans in over 130 countries already subscribing. If you don't already subscribe, you can by signing up HERE
scottishfootballleague.com
The SFL's website, scottishfootballleague.com, has been completely revamped over the past three years with a new format and also a new approach where we have looked to keep fans up-to-date with events at their clubs on a regular basis.
News stories are added throughout the week, usually on a daily basis, with previews into all SFL League and cup games also provided the day before the games.
Our popular minute by minute update service when games are live, makes Matchday a very busy day for scottishfootballleague.com and after the final whistle, you can read a match report on how your team got on.
We also support clubs by promoting their commercial activities such as Season Ticket sales and we support players through the Player Availability programme that is now confidently used to find footballers new clubs free of charge.
All that activity results in nearly two million visits from fans throughout the season from over 130 countries.

The newest addition is our Twitter account - @OFFICIALSFL which has grown to over 7,000 followers in just over 18 months, in fact 6,000 people have joined in the last 12 months.
Our policy of giving out factual information regarding games, especially pitch inspections and postponements, has proven very popular with the recent Ramsdens Cup Draw seeing followers jump considerably in number.
Unlike other Twitter accounts, we use it only to give information out as opposed to a discussion forum but hopefully, we can climb over the 5,000 mark before the start of the season.
